In the words of American Authors, "I Am My Own Man, I'll Make My Own Luck"
Dear Family and Friends,
Another week has just rocked on by here in Chile. MY P-DAYS ARE NOW ON TUESDAYS!!! We had changes meeting last week and President wants us all to be able to attend the temple, so he changed our P-days to Tuesdays! The temple is closed on Mondays for all of you that don't know our Temples don't operate on Mondays, because we dedicate that day to our families and have what is called Family Home Evening where we spend time as families teaching and learning the Gospel together as families. Unless you live in Provo and want to go in the early morning…Anyways, not only that but we can now go to Las Ferias where food is so much cheaper!!! The only thing that's lame is that all the missionaries that go home still go home on Monday so they don't get to bear their last testimony to all the missionaries before they leave.
Anyways, this week was good. Can't say that anything-super crazy happened. Elder Ramirez is district leader because during this last change we saw a lot of success in one of the hardest sectors in the mission.
This week as I was planning our next day I decided that we would contact one street called Aves Del Paraíso from 7-8 with any house that had lights on. We got a lot of doors slammed in our faces, but finally with one house a lady gave us the time of day just to talk to her about what we preach and believe. Her name is Yolanda and I have say that Heavenly Father put us at her doorstep that very night. She wasn't going to let us in at first, but as we started talking she immediately started crying. She let us come in, but there was no man in the house. (Elder Missionaries have to teach with a man present in the home.) She said that her son wasn't going to arrive for another hour, but literally 20 seconds after she said that he comes walking back from work. We were thankful we were able to teach them. It turns out that her husband is in jail for a crime he didn't commit. Yolanda knows that he's innocent and it's a lot like a Joseph and Potipher's wife situation... Anyways we went in and taught with the spirit and she was totally crying. She asked me to give her a priesthood blessing of comfort, so I did and she felt a lot better. Her son also wanted one from Elder Ramirez and he felt better as well. We will pass by later this week to check up on them. But this is a prime example where you just teach people and not lessons.... It was a really spiritual experience and I know that God answers my prayers because literally the day before I asked to see a miracle with our contacting. I just wanted an experience with being in the right place at the right time, and I got it.
A lot of our investigators are ETERNAL INVESTIGATORS. We always have people at the chapel, but none of them want to commit. In 1 Nefi (Nephi)10:17 we read about Nefi (Nephi) wanting to have the spiritual confirmation that what Lehi was saying about his vision was true. 17 says that if we search diligently for spiritual answers, the Holy Ghost will always respond. I’ve been stressing this a lot with our investigators that if they don't really look, they won't really find anything. Yesterday we had a great lesson with a family that I've been teaching since June. La Familia Lillo, their Dad is Catholic, and super nice. He loves The Book of Mormon, but he can't seem to understand that by saying "sí, El Libro de Mormón es la palabra de Dios." That this signifies our Church is TRUE! His daughter told us yesterday that she really wants to know now if this is true because she's casi segura that it is. WAY SWEET!
The reason that I used the American Authors song is because I am really trying to work with Elder Ramirez on just be diligent with the contacts. I know that I have never once failed in anything I do if I just keep at it and if I'm diligent and consistent in all things. I am my own man, and I make my own LUCK. Work hard, and things happen! WORK! WORK! WORK!!! Faith without work is dead!
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TOMORROW TO THE HOTTEST COUPLE ON EARTH! Yes, my Mom and Dad! Hope you're all loving school and all that crazy stuff! It really is Crazy to think that once you start ski season again, I'll be in summer. The weather here isn't too bad though. It rained like crazy a week ago, but now it's all sunshine!
Love you all so much! I Love my mission and I love the Lord! My mission President Barreiros is quite possibly the funniest man on Earth! I really Love that Brasilano!
Les Quiero Mucho,
Elder Weaver
